Try a Picnic Birthday Party For a Change

It's your child's birthday at the weekend and you haven't really given much thought about what you are going to do. You can't take them to McDonald's or the movies again so why not try a picnic birthday party for a change?

Don't worry too much about the weather try to plan your birthday picnic so that you can have it indoors if the rainclouds start appearing. Think about where you can have a birthday picnic that is easy to organize. If you are going to invite quite a few kids will they be able to get to the picnic? Would it be a better idea for you to have it in your back garden or even at a nearby park?

If you have enough time ask your kids to get involved in designing a Picnic Birthday Party invite so you can photocopy and distribute them to the people you want to come.

A birthday party just isn't the same without balloons and streamers so recruit some family and friends to help you get them blown up.

Hang them and some streamers around trees. For the tidy up after all the fun make sure that you have some black bin liners at the ready. If you are feeling really creative ask your kids to help you put together a Happy Birthday banner using glitter and sequins that you can hang out side you can even hang up posters of the birthday boy or girl. If you kid has likes a particular animal or program then why not try to incorporate this into the party too and get dressed up?

Put together a list of food items you know are popular with the kids and of course don't forget the birthday cake. If you want to save time cutting buy a tub of cupcakes that can still carry the birthday candles but are easier to distribute among guests. Make sure that you do your research about any allergies that your guests might have.

For a different take on goodie bags why not ask your kids to make some miniature weaved picnic baskets with some red and white napkins. They are simple to do and you can find plenty of ideas on the internet to help you.

Put together a plan of how you want the picnic to go and organize some fun games for the kids. If you are short of room try to focus on games such as pass the parcel and ask parents to bring prizes for the kids instead of food. Make sure that the activities you decide on are inclusive for all age groups that are attending. You could also book a face painter to come along and paint the guests faces. Make sure that you have a camera at the ready to capture the fun.

Get a few tablecloths and lay them down in the area that you are going to have your picnic and set out some birthday hats and whistles. You can also set out some party poppers but make sure you supervise the kids if you decide to do this.
